Cats are to dogs what modern people are to the people we used to have.
Cats are slimmer, cleaner, more attractive, disloyal, and lazy….
Cats are irresponsible and recognize no authority, yet are completely dependent on others for their material needs.
Cats cannot be made to do anything useful.
Cats are mean for the fun of it.
In fact, cats possess so many of the same qualities as some people (expensive girlfriends, for instance) that it’s often hard to tell the people and the cats apart.
- P. J. O’Rourke-

To gain the friendship of a cat is a difficult thing.
The cat is philosophical, methodical, quiet and tenacious of it's own habits. Cats are fond of order and cleanliness. It does not lightly confer its friendship. If you are worthy of it's affection, a cat will be your friend, but never your slave.
He keeps his free will, though he loves, and he will not do for you what he thinks is unreasonable.
But if he gives himself to you, it is with absolute confidence and affection. -Theopile Gautier-
